Ozil

Ardeche, France

Ozil is a collaborative project led by two brothers and winegrowers, Thomas and Jean-Daniel. Their estate is located at Mas de Bourret, not far from the Gorges de l'Archèche and the well-preserved cave paintings of Grotte Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc. The family farm, now in its 5th generation, is polycultural, cultivating olives, peaches, lavender, and vegetables alongside their 16 hectares of vineyards planted with grenache noir, grenache blanc, syrah, viognier, and cinsault grapes.

Ozil's cellar is carved into rock, adjacent to the bread oven, near the office installed in the old pigsty, beneath the hayloft that has given way to their house. The domaine is a testament to peasant history in harmony with nature. Ozil's 'Barry,' a chillable blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah, is what we affectionately call farmer's juice. It's the perfect weekday red wine to enjoy with takeout pizza or Chinese BBQ.
